Maple Walnut Bars

Ingredients

  • 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cold butter, cut into pieces
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
FILLING:
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup Karo® Light OR Dark Corn Syrup
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon maple flavour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1-1/2 cups finely chopped walnuts

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
For CRUST:
  1. Beat flour, butter, powdered sugar and salt together in a large bowl with mixer at low speed until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press firmly into a greased 15 x 10 x 1-inch baking pan. (Baking pan must be at least 1 inch deep; pan will be full.)
  2. Bake 15 to 17 minutes or until edges of crust are golden. Prepare filling while crust is baking.
For FILLING:
  1. Beat eggs, corn syrup, brown sugar, flour, maple extract and salt in a large bowl until well blended. Stir in walnuts. Pour over hot crust; spread evenly.
  2. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until filling is set. Cool on wire rack; cut into bars.
