Plate Decorating

  • Yield: As needed
  • Prep Time: 0:10

Ingredients

  • Karo® Light Corn Syrup
  • Assorted colored sugars

Directions

  1. For a festive touch, decorate your dessert plates with a swirl of Karo® Light Corn Syrup and top with colored sugar. Shake plate gently to discard excess sugar.
  2. To write words or other designs, place corn syrup in a resealable plastic bag, snip corner and pipe letters or designs. Sprinkle with colored sugar, invert plate and shake to remove excess sugar. Work with one or two colors at a time letting dry a few minutes before adding more corn syrup and more colors of sugar.
  3. Experiment with different holiday designs or stencils. For best results use plastic stencils that can be taped to plate. Spread corn syrup over stencil and cover with colored sugar. Dust off excess and carefully remove stencil.
For Suggested designs:
  1. Christmas Tree - use green sugar for the tree and multicolored sugar for ornaments.
  2. Easter Eggs - use pastel colored sugars to design your own eggs on the rim or center of plate.
  3. Tip: When decorating the rim or center of a plate, choose a plate with a flat rim. Otherwise, corn syrup may run before you cover it with sugar. The flatter the plate surface, the easier it will be to create your design.
  4. Note: The amount of corn syrup and colored sugar needed will vary depending on the design, number and size of plates to be decorated. Have plenty on hand since you may use more than you expect, especially colored sugar. If you make a mistake, simply rinse plate and start over!
